If you have heat damage or color treated hair, the winter can take a huge toll on your strands. I know from personal experience, my hair can get extremely dry if I don’t take the necessary steps to care after it in the winter. We’ve all been there, those days when our hair feels like straw. Here are some steps to follow to bring back some moisture into your strands by the next wash.
Co-Wash: Also known as “conditioner-only washing” is the perfect way to retain some moisture in your hair. If your hair is not completely dirty that day a great way to wash it is by washing it with conditioner. Washing your hair with conditioner keeps in the moisture and avoids the stripping of hair’s natural oils. Co-washing is the technique to use in between washes that will help keep your hair hydrated in the winter.
Deep Condition: A deep conditioning mask after Co-washing will repair your hair from everyday damage. Sit under a hair dryer for 10 minutes with this mask, the mask will penetrate your hair. When done wash it all off.
Leave in Conditioner: Leave in conditioner is a great way to have moisture in your hair even after you wash off your mask. Perfect to use a couple of times a month depending on how dry your hair is. I have been using the BLNDN Save you and I really like how lightweight it is. Use code ‘CLAUDIA20’ for 20% off your purchase.
Oils: Use a tiny bit of coconut oil in your hair and allow it to sit for a couple minutes. I know coconut oil doesn’t work on everyone but for those who have seen results coconut oil is the perfect thing to seal your strands after washing off your conditioner. Apply a tiny bit of coconut oil to your hair, leave it in for a couple of minutes or more and then rinse it off just with water, this leaves my hair feeling nice and moisturized.
Some people report coconut oil not working on their hair. Also too much of a good thing is never good, use a tiny bit to start and see how your hair reacts to it.
Heat Protection: Applying a heat protecting spray can make a huge difference in the amount of damage your hair gets from direct heat. Always use a heat protector especially before flat ironing your hair. My favorite heat protector is the CHI 44 Iron Guard which is a thermal protection spray that helps protect hair from thermal damage and breakage.
Frizz Control: If you have processed hair and it still needs a little more moisture and frizz control use the ORS Olive Oil Anti-frizz Glossing Polisher. It can be applied to both wet and dry hair, or both and it will maintain your hair frizz free. I don’t style my hair without the use of this product, one of the best products for super fizzy dry hair.
