Maryluz and Marysol are two passionate hair care professionals who have been in the hair industry for over 10 years. They currently run their own salon Salon Mii and are DevaCurl + Cut certified professionals. They carry an extensive line of natural hair care products along with DevaCurl products. Their salon provides all services from color, cut, treatments to makeup and prom packages. I’ve gather some of the most asked questions and they provided amazing tips for our readers.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourselves, when did you fall in love with hair? How long have you been running your own salon?
Marysol: Maryluz and I (Marysol) are two happy 32 years old twins. We are moms, I am a wife and we are the Founders of Salon Mii. I enjoy the vintage look, Maryluz enjoys the classic look. I have a new passion which is gardening, I’m learning from mom. The salon has been up and running for about 4 years going on 5. We fell in love with hair when we realized that we were able to make people happy with their desired look and helping them understand their hair.
2. Biggest mistakes you see ladies making on their hair?
Marysol: One of the biggest mistakes we see is when customers try to color their hair at home without having much knowledge on the products they are using. When they do visit a salon they don’t trust the process and want to achieve a much lighter color overnight which might not be healthy for their hair, so they don’t follow directions.
3. What are your tips for growing out your hair?
Marysol: Growing your hair is controlled by having patience and just providing it with lots of love. Giving the hair time to grow and giving it proper nutrients to maintaining it healthy and avoiding breakage.
4. You guys are all about the natural hair movement and have been helping many clients transition into natural hair. How can someone interested in going all natural get started in the natural hair journey?
Marysol: Becoming natural is a journey, one that is quiet beautiful. It is also a personal choice. Everyone is different one must find their goal and take steps by either cutting, rehabilitating and of course loving their hair so it will love them back.
5. You guys are an official DevaCurl/DevaCut Certified Salon and provide your customers with access to exclusive DevaCurl products. For newbies, what exactly is a DevaCut and why is it so popular?
Marysol: DevaCut is a way of shaping your natural curls. This process is meant to help clients style their natural curls with shape and form. It can be customized for any curl pattern, the benefits of a DevaCut is it can really help anyone to start the enjoyment process of their natural hair texture.
6. What are the benefits of using DevaCurl products?
Marysol: The DevaCurl products can help by eliminating the damage and harm factors of the hair. The products are detergent free. When starting the process we recommend clients start with the simple cleanse and conditioning by DevaCurl available at our salon.
7. You guys carry an extensive line of DevaCurl products at your salon, what is the top product you recommend for someone who wants to dip their feet into the products without investing in the entire line?
Marysol: Our top recommended products are B’Leave in and Ultra defining gel.
8. Help my hair is super frizzy!!!! what steps do you guys recommend for bringing dry, brittle hair back to life?
Maryluz: The best thing about our hair is we can always change it to something that we love. It can all start with just a cleanse and a conditioner. We then say to use a hydrating treatment for example the melt in moisture, this is a great way to add moisture, rehab and control your frizz.
9. What products do you recommend for curly hair volume?
Maryluz: A couple of products that I recommend are the Wavemaker or B’leave in. It’s more about how you style when it comes to volume and curls. To diffuse the hair upside-down is a great way to add great volume to your curls.
10. When going from dark to light what are some of the biggest mistakes you see your clients making?
Maryluz: There have been many clients who have tried to achieve a lighter look on their own natural dark hair, which we don’t advise. We as specialist suggest consulting with a professional because there are so many factors in lightening hair. Not lightening correctly can cause breakage and an uneven pigment throughout the hair.
11. How often should someone deep condition their hair and how can they ensure their hair is absorbing the goodness of the products?
Maryluz: Deep Conditioning treatments should be done at least once a week. When deep conditioning your hair, it is important to always read the directions on the product label. Always saturate well and use a plastic cap to lock in moisture. For the best results the longevity of leaving in the product really matters.
