Taking the time to properly set your eyeshadow can make a huge difference in how long it lasts. With all the effort that goes into doing your eye make up, it’s important to get the most out of each look. Sometimes we need our makeup to make it through long hours and get us from the office to the afternoon drinks with friends or coworkers. These tips will keep you from missing a beat. They will also come in handy on those long summer humid days when you need your makeup to stay in place.
Tips for long lasting eyeshadow application:
- Start with a clean eyelid. No moisturizers on the lids.
- Apply a small amount of eye primer. My favorite is the UD Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube
- Blend the primer well into the lid.
- Brush a bit of translucent powder to set the primer. (This is the most important step, this sets the primer in place, keeps it from creasing and allows the shadow to lay securely in place.)
- (No primer) If you don’t want to use a bit of translucent powder use the nude base color in your eyeshadow palette. I start with a nice soft nude matte color for all over the lid to set the primer.
- Your eye canvas is now ready. Apply your shadow as desired.
- Layer your shadow for a deeper effect.
Other tips:
If no primer, prime your eyes with concealer:A concealer can come in handy when applying your shadow. Use a concealer as a base for your shadow and set it with powder then apply the shadow.
Use an eyeliner as base:A black eyeliner blended all over the lid can act as the base color for a smokey eye. Making it appear more dark and profound.
Wet brush in makeup setting spray:Those shimmer shadows can stick better to the lid and appear more vibrant by wetting the brush in your favorite setting spray. Wet the brush with your setting spay then use the wet brush to apply your shadow.
Use quality, high pigmented shadows: Buy quality shadows that show up easier on your lid and will be of higher pigment. Here’s a list of makeup products to splurge vs. save.
