I’ve been a blonde for a long time, the process of maintaining my blonde hair feels simple. But I know for others it might be a little more complicated and overwhelming.
The process of going blonde can be harsh on your hair. Once you’re out of the salon chair, to keep your hair as healthy as possible you must provide a lot of care to it. Here are some essential tips and tricks to achieving healthy bleached hair.
Use A Weekly Penetrating Mask:
To have healthy bleached hair I do a penetrating hair mask at least 1x per week. Since bleach strips a lot of your hair oils, the maintenance takes double in time. A mask like It’s A 10 Miracle Hair Mask will keep your hair looking healthy. Leave it on as directed or use a plastic cap for even better penetration into the hair.
Try Other Repair Treatments:
Investing in 1 or 2 good products can make a difference in your hair. Olaplex is a great treatment if you bleach your hair. It repairs the hair from within by rebuilding the bonds that have been broken by heat and chemical damage. Bleach makes hair very brittle and dry and lose it’s elasticity, so the Olaplex treatment reverses this and strengthens each hair strand meaning that your hair won’t break off as easily when you wash and brush it.
Hydrate The Hair With Oils, Often:
Before washing my hair I like to use penetrating oils to add extra moisture to the hair before I use a purple shampoo in the shower. A purple shampoo helps get rid of the yellow/orange shades in the hair but I find it also adds a drying effect to the hair. I like to mix oils like coconut oil, olive oil or Argan oil and let it sit in my hair for 20 minutes before I jump in the shower and use the purple shampoo.
I also use a hair oil everyday depending on the styling, anything with olive or Argan oil works great and keeps hair looking shiny and hydrated.
Use A Leave-in Conditioner:
I use the It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-in Keratin Spray which makes my hair extremely silky and smooth, while helping me avoid the overall heat I would have needed to achieve the same slick result. This product is life changing and make’s blow drying your hair faster.
Keep Your Brightest Blonde With Purple Shampoo:
I use a purple shampoo once a week or when I feel like my hair needs it to keep the blonde looking brighter. A purple shampoo color corrects your hair’s hue restoring it to its former bright, cooler color.
Protect Your Hair From Heat:
A heat protectant is very important to use every time your hair comes in contact with heat. Heat protectants reduce the amount of damage caused by heat styling helping reduce damage. Use one every time you use any heat tool.
Get Regular Trims:
Cutting your ends regularly keeps your hair looking healthier. I usually cut any dead ends every 4 weeks because I rather see tiny cuts on my hair than big pieces. Getting regular trims really does help keep hair looking better. Regular hair trimming removes split ends and hair damage. This will make hair appear to grow faster because the hair will break less and, thus, grow longer in a shorter amount of time.
Do Not Wash Your Hair Everyday:
I wash my hair once a week max. Washing your hair too much can dry it even more by stripping away more natural oils. If I feel the need to wash my hair more I do a co-wash which is {shampooing your hair using a conditioner} to make sure it keeps as much moisture as possible.
