Starting the new year is all about setting new goals, building new habits and being thankful for past accomplishments. Personal growth and development is really important to me. I’ve always been an intrinsically motivated individual whose never really had a problem with achieving what I wanted on my own. Now, this also takes meticulous effort, from organizing my days, weeks, months to creating yearly goals for myself. Is not easy, but I believe we can all take small steps everyday that will lead us to a better self.
Life is growth. If we stop growing, technically and spiritually, we are as good as dead. Morihei Ueshiba
Staying on track of your goals after the first month of the new year is what truly counts. Many people loose focus because they are not in touch with their goals daily or they didn’t create a plan to achieve them. What are your goals for the new year? Is it starting a business? a blog? taking a class? traveling to a new city?
Whatever that is ……Did you write it down?
Put It On Paper
What ever it is that you want to accomplish this year, put it in writing. Title it 2018 Goals and put as much detail into that list as possible. Putting things on paper for me feels extremely real. Once it goes from a mere thought into paper it becomes something I crave and must have. Try this, it seems small but it a great first step.
Deadlines
Setting specific deadlines is important for reaching goals. It will keep you from procrastinating and leaving them for tomorrow. Goals should be plans and plans need action with deadlines. Whether is loosing 10 pounds in 3 months, moving to a new city by September or finding a new job by August a deadline needs to be attached to this goal in order for it to work.
Create A Vision
How do you invasion your life 5 years from now? And how can you break down that vision into 2 years from now, then a year from now. Visualization is an amazing way to image how your want your life become. Close your eyes and envision a perfect day in that future life. What are you doing? Who is around you? What do you see?
How can working on something today bring you closer to that future perfect day?
Plan Your Day
A goal without a plan is just a dream. Break down your year into months, then into weeks. Day by day allocate your plans and do one thing daily that will bring you closer to that end goal. Use a time cube to allocate time to important tasks, delegate and get whats important to you done.
Use tools to organize your days and don’t live day by day without a greater plan. Tools like Google calendar, a planner or even a daily to do list can help you work on your plans.
Think Big
Ever looked back at your previous achievements and wonder “wow I’ve come a long way” “can’t believe I accomplished that”. It is important to set big goals because it allows you to push harder towards what you want. Think big, why not? Pursue what you want, if you don’t the time will pass you anyway.
Revisit Your Goals
Not everyone is intrinsically motivated some people need outside forces to remind them and push them toward greater achievements. But no one can do this for you and pushing yourself on the daily can get extremely challenging. That’s why you need to see your goals everyday. Whether is via a vision board, a diary or small sticky notes you leave for yourself in the mirror (remember Being Mary Jane an her endless sticky notes around her home) a daily reminder is important because it resets our brains into remembering why we are doing what we are doing in that very moment.
“À plus tard” (already implementing my 2018 goal of improving my french)……..Wish you all a fabulous and fruitful new year! xoxo
