Summer months bring heat, humidity, sun rays and pool water. As much as my excitement arises for summer I’ve been thinking a lot about how to get my hair ready for it. I’ve heard of the importance of pre-conditioning your hair before shampooing. This process is called pre-poo.
What is a pre-poo?
A pre-poo is a treatment applied to the hair before shampooing it. This can be anything from an oil treatment to a hair mask or anything that is going to condition the hair before your wash. It can be oils or treatments you create at home. They can last anything from a couple of minutes after applying it to the hair, to hours or before bed time, depending on the product.
Pre-poo Helps With Moisture
Color treated hair and processed hair are always in need of moisture, adding a pre-poo step to your wash days can help retain more moisture. A deep mask with oils or a store bot mask can help restore lost moisture, from using hot tools, humidity, hair dyes and everyday wear. Curly hair can also benefit from pre-poo by leaving your hair appearing healthier and shinier.
Best Pre-poo Products Make Detangling Easier
The best pre-poo products/treatments soften the strands and gives them much needed oils and moisture back, making it easier to detangle. When you let a pre-poo mask sit on the hair, the hair will be more easily manageable and easier to detangle as the strands wont need much work.
Pre-poo Helps Avoid Hair Breakage
Detangling hair during the pre-poo process helps avoid breakage, hair breaks easily when wet so softening the strands with a mask will make the hair less prone to breakage. Usually sitting with a mask for 15 min will make the hair break less when detangling. This mask will hydrate and strengthen the hair also making it silkier in the process.
